Radiological protection – Natural supplements prevent radiation sickness

Richard Stossel,  August 24, 2011

(NaturalNews) With the situation in Fukushima, Japan actually being much worse than reported by the mainstream media, more and more people are concerned about the increasing possibility of a nuclear accident, terror attacks or other radiation release event. In light of that, this article will explore some effective natural supplements to protect yourself from dangerous and deadly effects of radiation sickness should it occur.

Radiation damages the cells via both direct and indirect damage to the DNA itself. This occurs via the production of large quantities of free radicals which can damage many areas of the cell, especially the DNA. When these radioactive particles pass through the cellular fluids, they produce superoxide and hydroxyl radicals: the latter being most destructive.

Radioactive particles in cells overwhelm the protective actions of various DNA repair enzymes due to the sheer volume of free radical production. Another reason that adding digestive enzymes to the diet can once again prove to be life saving is because the more enzymes you have, the greater cellular reparations will be. (…)

It turns out that most of the antioxidant vitamins and minerals that are so effective at keeping you healthy also have powerful anti-radiation effects by virtue of their free radical scavenging and lipid peroxidation inhibiting properties.

Here are a number of excellent supplements that will not only help protect you from natural or man-made radiation, but will also boost your overall healthy and immunity.

Main Supplements for Radiological Protection
Circumin; (250-500mg) A flavonoid extract from the spice turmeric (Curcuma longa L)., circumin has powerful anti-cancer and anti-inflammatory effects and is an effective inhibitor against brain degeneration.

Beta 1,3/1,6 D-glucan-a type of carbohydrate derived from Bakers’ Yeast (comes in a 250 mg and 500 mg dose capsules). This is to be taken only following an attack or if an attack is eminent. It is a very powerful immune stimulant and radioprotectant.

Wikipedia says this about D-Glucan: “Mice exposed to 500-900 cGy (500-900 mrads) of gamma radiation exhibited a significantly enhanced recovery of blood leukocyte, platelet and red blood cell counts when given i.v…-glucan” (

Another form of Beta 1,3/1,6 D-glucan is called Macroforce. Children aged 13 and 17 should take one 2.5 mg MacroForce during a high warning period until the all clear is given. Those between ages 6 and 12, give 2.5 mg MacroForce every other day. It is safe for pregnant women to take an adult dose.

Folate , methylcobalamin, niacinamide and vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) All of these work together to help protect and repair DNA in the following dosages:
Folate (Naturally occurring folate or Vit B9) 800mcg
Methylcobalamin (Natural B12) (5000 mcg)
Niacinamide (B3) 500 mg
Vitamin B6 50 mg a day.
All of these should be taken together along with zinc (25-50mg per day) for maximum effect.

N-acetyl-L-cysteine (500mg) Precursor to the powerful antioxidant Glutathione which it helps produce.

Selenomethionine – Organic Selenium (200mcg) Works together with zinc to produce superoxide dismutase and glutathione peroxidase, one of the most powerful antioxidant enzymes in the body. Assists with DNA repair and free radical scavenging.

Secondary Supplements for Health and Radiological Protection at sub-lethal doses (below 200 rems)

Beta Carotene (Mixed carotenoids 25,000 to 50,000 IU per day) Protects important blood cells, especially those in the spleen. There are no known toxic levels for Beta Carotene.

Vitamin C: (3000-6000mg per day) Known as the King of the anti-oxidants is one of the most effective supplements against radiological effects. Take 3000-6000mg per day as a maintenance dose & double that in case of radiation exposure.
